live a proper moral life. I think thats important.'
'This
is something I'm still trying to reconcile with banning
Pride marches and legalising brothels', James Davenport
said.
'Frank
Maloney has proved already to be a dangerous extremist
- now we know what his plans are for London: to ban
Gay Pride and legalise brothels.
'This
Candidate of Ill-Repute needs to be stopped at all costs.
He's already attacked the gay community, the Metropolitan
Police and even the good people of Camden - where he
won't be campaigning.
'Presumably
he wants to situate his brothels in Camden Town', Mr
Davenport added.
'I
have written to the leader of UKIP, asking him whether
his London mayoral candidate is speaking for his Party
on these issues, or whether he is simply an unstable
maverick.
'It's
time for UKIP to back or sack their homophobic mayoral
candidate.'
Frank
Maloney has sought to defend his attack on the gay community
since Gay Conservatives called for him to be sacked.
He has told the media:
'I
dont have a problem with a lot of parades in London,
but there is a problem with gay parades'.
'I
object to seeing policemen in uniform holding hands
in public its not a family way of life
and we should support the family more. If a policeman
and a policewoman in uniform were walking along holding
hands in public theyd be pulled up'.
'Im
not homophobic but in public lets live a proper
moral life. I think thats important.'
'I
have said I don't want to campaign around gays because
I don't think they will vote for me.'
'I
don't think they do a lot for society. I don't have
a problem with gays, what I have a problem with is them
openly flaunting their sexuality.'
'I
will go to Camden. I'm not a career politician - I'm
not going to say one thing one day. I said it as an
off the record remark.'
'I'm
more for traditional family values and family life.
I'm anti same-sex marriages and I'm anti same-sex families.'
'I
don't think it's right for children to be brought up
that way. I don't think two men can bring up a child.'
'If
you are homosexual, you are homosexual - just get on
with your life and stop bitching about things.'
Read
James Davenport's letter to UKIP leader Roger Knapman
in full:
Dear Mr Knapman,
I was very surprised to see the comments that your candidate
for London mayor has made about the gay community. What
is your position on his comments?
He said:
'I dont have a problem with a lot of parades in
London, but there is a problem with gay parades'.
Do you support or condemn this?
'I object to seeing policemen in uniform holding hands
in public its not a family way of life
and we should support the family more. If a policeman
and a policewoman in uniform were walking along holding
hands in public theyd be pulled up'.
Do you support or condemn this?
'I have said I don't want to campaign around gays...
I don't think they do a lot for society. I don't have
a problem with gays, what I have a problem with is them
openly flaunting their sexuality.'
Do you support or condemn this?
'I'm more for traditional family values and family life.
I'm anti same-sex marriages and I'm anti same-sex families.
I don't think it's right for children to be brought
up that way. I don't think two men can bring up a child.
If you are homosexual, you are homosexual - just get
on with your life and stop bitching about things.'
Do you support or condemn this?
If you support your candidate's comments, you must say
so. If, on the other hand, you condemn them, you must
sack him as candidate and expel him from your Party.
If you fail to act, you will be open to charges that
you are competing for votes with the British National
Party. You must back or sack your mayoral candidate.
I look forward to your prompt reply.
James Davenport
Chairman, Gay Conservatives.
