Theresa May boldly outlined the driving force of the Conservative policy revolution today, declaring 'our trust in people will shine through each and every policy we announce this week'.

Setting the tone for the Conservative Party conference in her opening speech, she told activists gathered in Blackpool, 'It's Labour that seek to herd people into groups, to label them and deal with them collectively.

'It is the Conservative Party that respects people for who they are and welcomes them as individuals on their own merits.

Receiving the most sustained applause of the day, she went on, 'Rich or poor. Gay or straight. Black or white. Whoever you are, wherever you're from, the Conservative Party is for you'.
