James Davenport Appointed Chairman Until AGM

James Davenport

James Davenport has been appointed Chairman of Torche, following the resignation of Andy Jennings.

Responding to his appointment, James Davenport said:

'I look forward to serving as Chairman in the period to the Annual General Meeting. There is a lot of work to do, building on the successes of the past year. We have significant events and campaigns to prepare for.

'I would like to confirm now that I intend to stand as Chairman at the AGM and will be announcing my programme shortly. For now, though, I would simply like to thank the committee for their confidence, and thank Andy Jennings for all his hard work.'

James Davenport was previously Deputy Chairman - Media, handling the organisation's public relations strategy. He has also been responsible for producing policy documents and advising shadow cabinet members during meetings.

Professionally, James is an independent communications consultant. He has worked for the Conservative Research Department, advising the shadow cabinet on the Labour Party, and was a member of the Party's War Room campaign team for the 2001 general election.

James has been Youth and Student Affairs Officer for Torche (1997-1999), and was elected as Deputy Chairman in 2001. He is 24.
