Historic First Meeting with Conservative Leader

Iain Duncan Smith MP

Andy Jennings (Chairman) and James Davenport (Deputy Chairman) have held an historic first meeting with Iain Duncan Smith, leader of the Conservative Party.

Speaking outside Conservative Central Office following their meeting, James Davenport commented:

'We are happy to say that our meeting has been constructive and friendly. Iain has reaffirmed his commitment to deal with Section 28, and recognises that there are many issues that affect the gay community.

'Iain believes it is for the individual to decide how to run their own lives, and not for the Government to try and live it for them. This is at the heart of his vision of Conservatism, and is absolutely in line with our policy recommendations for the gay community.'

The Conservative leader also confirmed that the Party's policy review - the most complete since 1979 - would allow opportunities for Torche to make its case. The Party would be very open to policy proposals that would provide individuals to have more freedom from the State, and to be treated in parity with everyone else.
