Shadow
Secretary of State for Trade & Industry Tim
Yeo MP
|
Commenting
in response to the news that the Government has
unveiled proposals to give gay and lesbian couples
the same legal rights as married couples through
civil partnerships, the Shadow Secretary of State
for Trade and Industry, Tim Yeo MP said:
Conservative
MPs will have a free vote on Government proposals
to change the law to allow same-sex couples the
same legal rights as married people.
I
welcome the recognition that people in committed
relationships will now have the chance to clear
up any doubts over areas such as their pension
entitlements, inheritance issues and next of kin
status.
It
is right that those people that have been victims
of discrimination in the past will now have this
opportunity.
